My Books and Photos
I purchased a new bookshelf last week! So glad about that. It’s really long overdue. Up until yesterday I’ve been keeping my books in two small bookshelves. Of course, those bookcases were too small to contain even my very modest, small home library that I’ve had to put many books into some boxes in my closet. Thanks to my great dad for his willingness to help me assemble the new bookshelf. I had fun helping him do it. Mmm, okay, actually all I did was getting him specific tools when he asked for them, and then exercising my arm muscles by carrying the newly assembled bookcase into my room.
He didn’t even really need my help, but I just enjoyed watching him work and learning how he put the parts together. My dad is one of those mechanically inclined men who can fix almost anything and everything (especially around the house, and cars, too!) all by himself. He’s just skilled when it comes to those manly types of work.
Here are some pictures of my books taken for fun. Feel free to click on the thumbnail to enlarge the pic.

…I’ve had to put many books into some boxes in my closet……
Jessica, please share this with our friends that a HARDBOUND book should NEVER be put in a position where the spine faces the ceiling and the page edges face the floor. The weight of those suspended pages will drag down on the binding and make it LOOSE!
I learned it from a book on book collecting. Few people know about this, unfortunately. Even in bookstores we often see them placing books on a table with the spines showing upward (facing the ceiling).. It’s true that on a horizontal surface it makes the titles readily visible, but the damage it causes to the binding is irreversible.
This warning does NOT apply to softcover books as their page edges are flush with the cover. On hardcovers, the binding extends beyond the page edges.

Jessica, you can save the shelf space and download great digital books onto your computer directly from our website. Great commentaries recommended by Spurgeon, works by Spurgeon and a whole host of Puritan works. And for lovers of the real article with plenty of money and room, you can also buy books from the store- coming soon!
BTW- still waiting for the link that you promised some while back

HI Satch,
You’re right that we can save the physical space as well as the cost of shipping those books. On the other hand, e-books are more tiring (and slower) to read on the screen. Printing them out will defeat the original purpose of the digital format, plus the binding will never be as good as those professionally bound edition.
I’d only buy the digital version IF there are certain benefits in spite of the compromise.

Hi Alf
Thanks for your post- But you haven’t seen our website;-) The downloads are FREE and a great many of the books are extremely rare and would cost an arm and a leg to purchase.

Hi Satch,
Thanks for the heads up. Yes, it was a pleasant surprise to see the free offers on your website. I wish there many others as generous as you.
Your selfless ministry will certainly be a blessing to many seeking Christians, and I am sure will be spread by word of mouth.
God bless you, Satch.

Dear Alf
I hope I have converted you to the benefits of reading digital books!
All the works on our website are already in the public domain. What we are really doing is no more than providing an indexing service. But we hope and pray that even this modest effort to bring the treasures of the past to the attention of hungering Christians will be owned by the Lord to bless countless souls.
We shall be adding tons more. So please do bookmark the site and make it known as widely as you are able.
We only launched the site in November last year, but the stats are very interesting. We have had 2,140 visits from 72 different countries wth total page views of 9,807. The countries include many that are staunchly Islamic and we recently received an encouraging email from someone in one of these countries thanking us for the website! PTL.
Lord bless.

Hi Jessica,
I wonder if you have Ron Jenson’s book “Make a Life, Not Just a Living”
It came out around 1995 and that’s one of the best books I’ve ever read.
BTW, Dr. Ron Jenson used to work for the late Bill Bright, founder of Campus Crusade. He also wrote “How to Succeed the Biblical Way.”

Hey! Great pictures. I find it interesting that you have the Brothers Karamazov by Dostoyevsky. I have never come around to reading that, but I have heard good things. Give me some input on it, that’d be great! Thanks!
