List of Goals
I thought it’ll be edifying for me to write down a list of my goals. Some are manageable in the short-term, and others are a product of brainstorming ideas. I was inspired to record these after reading someone else’s blog. I thought it would be beneficial for me to write these ideas down for reference so I don’t forget. Listed in no particular order.
- Read and study the Bible every day. Follow my schedule and plan. Use the Matthew Henry’s Commentary on the Whole Bible in connection with my Bible reading.
- Spend time with God in prayer before facing the rigors of the day. Start and end each day in prayer.
- Jog 35 minutes a day, 4 days a week (Mon, Tues, Thurs, Sat).
- Spend my Saturday evenings at home to prepare for the Lord’s Day (instead of going out). Evaluate my week and areas I need to improve. “Resolved, to inquire every night, as I am going to bed, wherein I have been negligent,- what sin I have committed,-and wherein I have denied myself…” (I borrowed this from Jonathan Edwards’ Resolutions #37.)
- “Resolved, never to lose one moment of time; but improve it the most profitable way I possibly can.” (Jonathan Edwards’ Resolutions #5.)
- “Resolved, never to speak evil of anyone, so that it shall tend to his dishonor, more or less, upon no account except for some real good.” (from Jonathan Edwards’ Resolutions #16.)
- Organize & clean the home and complete my homemaking work according to planned schedule.
- Learn from godly older Christian ladies on Biblical femininity/womanhood, the arts of homemaking skills, etc.
- Assign one book title to read for each day (5 books for Mon-Fri).
- Save my earnings as much as possible. Be prudent in my expenses.
- Invest my savings wisely.
- Have at least several minutes each day for a meaningful conversation with my parents.
- Invite someone over and show hospitality over a holiday (e.g. tea party, meal, etc.).
- Memorize one question (per week) from the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
- Journal or blog what God is doing in my life (His faithfulness and His wonderful work).
- Learn the guitar from my friend.
- Become friends with everyone from church. Take time to talk with different people each week and get to know them better.
Okay, that is it … for now. I’m sure there are more things to add to the list in the coming days, so I’ll need to update it from time to time. If you have any suggestions or ideas to add to the list, feel free to contribute. ![]()

Jessi,
All very commendable. I shall keep you in prayer concerning these things, and maybe I can help you get started with guitar? God bless you for aiming high, but please remember it’s okay, when life’s roller coasters hit every once in a while, if you neglect a thing or two on that list.
I can certainly resonate with several from your list. I especially like the Saturday evening goal.
Blessings to you, Ma’am.

What a wise and challenging list of goals. My wife is currently reading through Matthew Henry’s commentaries. They’re a great tool.
May God help you and bless you.
I noticed that you give away books some times. Starting this month I hope to give one away each month on my blog, too.

Jessica,
I commend you for quite a list of goals. I will pray for you to be able to obtain them all w/o any difficulty. From what I have learned about you from your blog listings - I believe you will do well in attaining each one. Blessings. Later …

Jessica,
You are a real joy. That is a very commendable list. I especially like the ones about communicating with your parents and preparing for worship Saturday evenings. Don’t give up when you get side tracked, just recommit yourself. I praise God for Him bringing you into my life.
May God bless you abundantly!

Dear Jessica,
It was such a delight to meet you at the recent WCWC! I am so excited when the Lord “introduces” me to young women who are serious about the Lord, and who desire to apply His word to their lives. Thank you for your sweet encouragement.
May the Lord bless you as you seek to honor Him!
Resting in His joy,
Rebecca

Hello all,
Thanks for all the encouraging comments you posted here. I’ve been absent from this blog in recent weeks. Please accept my apologies for the delay in replying your comments.
Pastor Wagner, thank you for your kind words of encouragement. I praise God for introducing me to you and the rest of the RHC family…You’re a wonderful pastor & shepherd to your flock. I really appreciate your wisdom and expositional preaching each Sunday. God bless you always!
Hello John and Pastor Randy:
I enjoy reading your blog as well. Thanks for your encouragement!
Mr. Landrum,
It’s an honor for me that you linked to my blog. May God bless you and your family.
Hi Pastor Bruce and Joshua,
Thank you for all your prayers. It’s always encouraging to read your comments.
Dear Ruth,
I need to exercise my spiritual muscles of discipline more and more. By the way, every time I see a picture of your sewing handiwork on your blog, I’m tempted to add “Learn to sew” into my goals list.
Yes, you’re right, unfortunately discipline doesn’t just happen accidentally for me.
Dear Rebecca,
I was so encouraged in talking with you and seeing your love for the Lord. I was blessed. Thanks for visiting my blog. Hope to talk with you again. May our wonderful God continue to bless you and all that you do for Him.
It was such a delight to meet you as well at WCWC!

Thank you for this wonderful blog! I will come back often. May God bless your efforts to organize your schedule.
My pastor pointed out to me the wonderful teachings contained in Matthew Henry’s Introduction so make sure not to skip that part as I did before my pastor guided me to do otherwise.

Dear Mrs. Carrington,
What a pleasure to hear from you! I’ve visited your blog as well…thanks for sharing your wisdom and love for God through your blog.
I also appreciate your reminder to not skip Matthew Henry’s Introduction. Sometimes it’s easy for me to forget and just skip over straight to the commentaries section, so thank you for your kind reminder.
I haven’t been writing much on here recently, but hopefully I’ll have more time to do so in the near future. Thanks again for visiting my blog. I hope you have a wonderful day of worship this coming Lord’s Day.

Hello Jessica,
Dropping you a note to see how you are doing. I am hoping everything going well for you. I have been wondering how you are doing since I don’t see you blog much. I hope this doesn’t mean you converted to Arminianism, LOL

The challenge to jog 35 min a day is the hardest on the list!

Hi Jessica,
Just a short note to let you know that you are being lifted up in prayer each time the Lord brings your name into my thoughts. I trust you are able to worship and serve the Lord on a daily basis. I also hope you have been able to be faithful to your list of things to do. It is amazing how time moves so quickly.
I am now on a short sabbatical. Cindy and I have moved to the southern Georgia coastal region. Enjoying the beautiful weather and looking forward to having a winter w/o a great deal of cold weather. God has been gracious to us since moving to this area. He has opened some opportunities to preach, we have had the privilege of visiting several of the churches in the area, and we have made some great friends among the pastors in this area. Take care and may the Lord continue to bless you and your efforts to bring glory to His name.
