“The best is often defeated by the good.” I don’t remember who said that, but it has stuck with me! I often find myself saying, “There is nothing wrong with spending my time this way, or reading this book…..” It may not be wrong, it is just not the best.

As a side note, I wondered why you weren’t making any updates on Goodreads! Now I know why.

I was wondering if you would ever return to blogging and how you been doing out there on the left coast.

You have been an inspiration to me as I work with my blogsite. I understand about trying to be a better steward of time. I like blog because it helps me to sort my thinking but work, home, and church has really been taking up a lot of my time.

Jessica, what a cheerful thing to see a post from you in my reader . Daily discipline is like a constant ascent up a steep mountain, and probably takes a lifetime to truly learn; but yes it is important to be learning it from our thought life on out. I’m trying to do better about online time as well: it’s very nice to have the internet as a way to take part in the lives of other people we love, but it can become very difficult to balance that with the obligations we have in a more present sense. I pray God will bless your efforts, and you.

thank you for your very thoughtful update, Jessica. As your blog has been in my reader I saw this today. All the things you mentioned are good things for us all to consider. Computers, forums and blogs can be very beneficial but they can also rob us of our time, energy and focus on all those good, real life things your mentioned. One needs to be disciplined that’s for sure!
